I thought the earlier chapters were great, but I thought he rushed through the story of genealogy in recent years. I was rather disappointed with this section of the book, which obviously covered the period that I am most familiar with. I noticed a number of inaccuracies and careless mistakes.

I was therefore very interested in your comments on the technology side where you know a lot more than I do. So it seems that the later section of the book is even more flawed than I thought. A pity, because I love the idea of a history of genealogy. The history of genealogy in the Internet age deserves a book of its own - any volunteers, Drew?Audrey Collinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17109060807297085410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1525694153833624493.post-53346590628033601842012-04-02T11:09:14.822-04:002012-04-02T11:09:14.822-04:00Yes, Drew, I am with you1 Have made my list and no...Yes, Drew, I am with you1 Have made my list and now just waiting as the states come online, one-by-one...it's gonna be a long day!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17004641332673276757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1525694153833624493.post-32791247745869046552011-10-20T19:42:02.603-04:002011-10-20T19:42:02.603-04:00Genealogical Studies.com has some computer courses...Genealogical Studies.com has some computer courses for learning how to use google for genealogy. I discovered them this summer and as the younger generation of my family have started asking questions about the older generation who are long gone and they never knew them. I am now one of the older generation and since I live in Tennessee and they mostly live in Maine I can't get to all of them with the same information so I started a blog with the info I had learned from my parents and my genealogy research. I can reach all of them this way. It figures - if I start doing something it must be on the way out! :) The biggest side-effect from becoming a blogger that I've found is that, even though I post only twice a week, I spend even more time reading other blogs and less time reading anything else on my reading list (which just keeps getting longer because of book recommendations on other blogs).*GeorgiaTimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03322127805477281247noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1525694153833624493.post-40100551239825182352011-02-24T14:22:48.704-05:002011-02-24T14:22:48.704-05:00I was able to get RM4 working on my Mac and in Lin...I was able to get RM4 working on my Mac and in Linux using wine. Two, actually. First, it wasn't necessary for me to create a GEDCOM-format file from RootsMagic in order to use GenSmarts with it. GenSmarts can directly read RootsMagic 4 files.

More importantly, I just downloaded and installed the newest release of CrossOver (version 10). So long as they are covering their expenses for sending copies to those who request them, I don't think they would have any incentive to digitize and put them online (a very expensive process).
